How to replace your spark plugs

Doing certain things such as changing the oil and other fluids of your car can be done on your own and you can save a lot of money. Likewise, changing the spark plugs is simple if you follow the right process.

Study vehicle’s manual properly

Before you go ahead in this process, it is very important that you should be abreast with right technique. So study the vehicle manual properly to understand everything.

Get the correct spark plugs

For getting the proper spark plugs, the best option is to go and get these from the automobile parts store. Make sure you get the original product for your vehicle. Also, there are certain plugs that demand to be gapped while others do not. So make sure which one is yours! You can know whether your spark plugs demand gapping or not from the reference book.

Adjust distance between the electrodes

The spark sits in between the electrodes. So make sure the distance between the electrodes is proper and appropriate. The gap usually should be between .028-.060 inches. You can again check this from the car manual.

Check fitting of new plugs

You need to check it whether the new plugs fit properly or not. You can do this by using wrench-socket gasket.

Check wires

The number of wires is same as the number of spark plugs in the engine. These wires sit equally divided on the opposite sides of the engine and are usually of red or black color.

Use spark plug socket to remove and replace

You need to make use of spark plug socket so that you can remove the older socket plugs and install the newer ones. Do not tighten these too much.

Once you are done with these steps, close the engine, start the vehicle again and check.
